Poll Time: San or Sun?

So last chapter I tranlsated the name of the new girl as Sun. I read on another forum that another person thought it was wrong and should be San. For the record the katakana of the name is サン, which literally is San, but you can also pronounce Sun in a way that it sounds very similar to San.

So, it's up to you guys what you think I should translate the name as starting from the next chapter.

Romanization is only based on the pronounciation after all and is not absolute, so either would work. Is the spelling of her name the same as the honorific -san? If it isnt, then I think 'Sun' is better as I dont think its good to call her San-san if the two 'san' is spelled diffrently in japanese.

it's better if it's san, you may be violating one of japanese's using of grammar. i don't know. san is my best choice. Using sun may violate the japanese way of language. and i haven't heard of any manga's or movie's with sun, the more common is san no matter what the name. San is my best choice

Roman letters arent part of the japanese language, so there are no formal rules for spelling with them. Its just written in such a way that it sounds similar to japanese when read. The common way to romanize japanese isnt always the exactly correct way as its an aproximation and there are alternate ways to do it. As both San and Sun is pronounced the same so are both equaly correct. But its quite likely that neither is exactly correct as the true pronounciation may be subtly diffrent.

Welll Lingwe, if you could get a hold of a raw of Seto No Hanayome when the main heroine's name is also "San", look and see if the name characters are the same, and if they are, "San" will do. Here is the name off Wikipedia: Sun Seto (瀬戸 燦 ,Seto San?)

They'll probably start just referring to her as San-sempai, so it won't be a problem because in Seto they always called the girl San-chan. Again that relieved the "San-san" dilemma. In any event, how her name is thrown around in the next chapter will tell us exactly how to use it.

The main female protagonist, Sun is the daughter of the Yakuza Seto Group's boss, Gōzaburō Seto. She is a firm believer in the chivalrous spirit of mermaids, and is devoted to her role as Nagasumi's wife. She is also in love with Nagasumi. Since she has yet to become an adult, Sun is unable to completely maintain her human form, and her legs revert to a tail whenever she comes into contact with water. Which means whoever fan-translated it in the first place was just using the direct translation while the official translation is Sun.

I think EXACTLY the same way as Znail... it wouldn´t seem ok if someone where to add the -san after her name... San-san doesn´t look good at all :P... but if we are talking about Sun-san, then thats another story...

Its pretty obvious in Seto no Hanayume as her friendly rival is called Lunar (moon) too. So I dont find it strange that her name is a direct Sun reference.
