Kannagi (anime and manga)

seeing as there was no topic for it and i didn't want to keep hijacking threads to talk about it. ayako released their sub of it already - havent checked it out yet, but from the little note doesn't seem like the translation of it isn't confident. anyways hopefully more people will come to like the show and the manga to discuss it since it seems like only dancu and i keep talking now :lol:

the first episode is pretty similar to the manga - although they did keep it strictly to introduction of 2 of the main characters (ie. personality, who they are, etc.)

Hehe, not much to say about it as its pretty much like the manga. This is another light novel->manga->anime right? Seems like there are quite alot of them starting up right now.

Its a bit extra interesting as they will progress further then the manga too. But its a bit of a coincidence that there are several of them at the same time. Hmm, Tales of the Abyss is a game originaly but thats somewhat similar as the manga isnt that far along there either.

Just got done watching ep 1. Its pretty interesting so i will keep watching.

I dont know much about this is it a Harem or whats the rommance story?

i havent kept up with it but it starts to look like a harem after couple chapters (the romances are pretty obvious when you see them) - but the general main focus is pretty much what is explained in ep 1.

I have only read the translations and there arent that many chapters. But I can give some spoilers perhaps.
There will be another goddes who is the sister/split of the first one (that still has her tree) and they will be competing with eachother for popularity and doing their best to be worshiped :)

The part about her power being related to how worshipped she is a pretty common concept in stories and they kind of makes fun of it in this story. Afterall, if a beutiful (teen) godess wants japanese worshippers, how hard can it be? :)

Well, its still the guy that is the main character so even if the little goddesses play around some so wont it take up too much of the story.

[edit]The girl is alot similar to Horo in Wolf and Spice in that she is both rather mature as a person and at the same time very innocent about the world. Alot of the humor and story elements are similar too.

Yupp, 3rd episode was in school and Jin didnt make himself popular among the males :) The sister goddess showed up as well at the end.

There was 2 more chapters of the manga translated recently too. Probobly wont be too long before the anime catches up to that, so then we get to see girls working at a Cosplay cafe:Jump_Roll:

well the story so far is following the manga - not really much to discuss. i personally still like it since i liked the story so much on the manga. as for the translated chapters - they can take their time since there hasn't been any new raws for it for a long time.

lol well finally a good episode, things should get more interesting from now on. I was bored to tears for the 1st 3 eps wondering if the story was ever gonna pick up. Zange is prolly my fav character haha

well i disagree with all of you guys i love this series i just downloaded the 4th ep so i cant comment on that one but the first 3 were bloody great i really love this anime.

i'm glad there is another group doing it now since TEA stopped it so long ago. i've been reading the raws with my friend and the story gets more interesting, but it seems like its a different direction now.

the translations? no clue i got them on the same day but my guess is maybe they did a dual release. if they did are planning on keeping up with it probably a good week and half for the next one from October 20th.

New episode was packed with Nagi-goddness :) They combined bra shopping with the cosplay cafe! Jin is having a hard time this episode :)

I wish it was somehow unexpected. I have seen it mentioned in other mangas actualy that even some normal people are still somewhat oldfashined in japan and even widows have a somewhat dimishied status. Teen idols cant have boy/girlfriends as then they popularity instantly drop. Well, I just hope that the manga or the anime doesnt suffer from this. With some luck so will the added publicity compensate for any lost fans.

Actualy, as far as I understand it so is it the fact that she has an ex-boyfriend that is the issue as they asume she did naughty things with him at some time or another. Anyway, its even more silly when you read that episode as there is so much going on. Nagi has suffered from amnesia, Zange created a clone out of impurities, Nagi is asking Zange to kill her and this is when people get hang up on her having an ex! You have to be rather uninterested in the actual story to consider that the most important!

wow so the manga got suspended in japan because the mangaka is sick, but it seems a bit extreme so they are starting to blame otaku fans for extreme behavior. hopefully she is able to continue in the future and hope her health returns. it should be easy to tell that the anime won't have a 2nd season and catch up to the same point the manga is at anyways. i better buy all the volumes next time in little tokyo now seeing that it could become rare.

It does seem a bit much of a coincidence that it got suspended right at this time. You have to be seriously sick to take several weeks off from work, even more so when its a work probobly done at home. Hmm, maybe less farfetched thou that the assisstants may not want to get sick too.

Its even more strange if we consider some of the anime episodes (I dont remember if its exactly the same in the manga). Even if Nagi is cute and acts girlish so isnt she exactly shy about boy stuff (there are plenty of examples of her lack of shyness). I would consider her far to cynical about such things to never have had a boyfriend at the least. So I dont see how anyone could consider it such a big surprice other then it dissapointed alot of otakus.

i think they are saying the mangaka is a woman and well not to put down any gender they take some of the stuff to heart and it could literally effect their work, well im sure it is the same for all people.

dont know if umi-chan got the sotry off of sankaku but if he did it states another story where an artist could draw anymore due to a real life porblem and then later died

Some of the comments I have seen have been pretty extreme so I can understand if someone sensitive got upset. Its sad about the manga, but I think the mangaka will manage as she does have another job to fall back on, somewhat ironicly working for a well known h-game company. Anyone else find it ironic that she gets called a slut for Nagi havig an ex-boyfriend but making h-games didnt bother them?

That other story was extremely sad. Sounds to me that someone devoted to art lost the touch after being violated and then lost the will to live. It even seemed that the culprit didnt get punished to save the victim from anguish and shame.

I just watched the new ep and its about time they start getting into the story a bit i was getting a bit sick of the comedy especially of last week waste of an episode(a whole ep dedicated to karaoke COME ON!! at least throw a bit of skin in there!).

It seems Kannagi isnt quite dead yet! The mangaka was hospitalised and had some surgery from some stress related issue but has expressed a wish to keep doing Kannagi when she gets out from the hospital. So while she did get stressed so does it seem that it was her body that got hurt most and she doesnt suffer from trauma. Thats good as while painfull so does an acid burn in the stomach heal faster then the mind.

There is another reason for the lone chapter some people became angry at. After reading chapter 36 of Kannagi, it seems to fit that there is a biblical reference.


In John 3:16, "For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son... shall not perish and have an everlasting life." This is synonymous to Kannagi where the spirit is protecting the people from impurities which is based from sin and that Nagi's own sacrifice of herself is like saving the people of world from sin in the bible by the messiah.
I could only guess that if it has a basis on that, then Nagi will be exorcised and that she will come back using the basis of the second coming.

I doubt that any biblical reference would cause a problem with japanese fans...

There are plenty of manga with far more direct biblical links like angels and demons or even with Satan as the main hero! Some of those could probobly not be printed in the US due to that.

they want their idols kept clean and pure, that is the japanese mentality
also since she had a boyfriend in the past then she isnt pure anymore and much more of an outrage with the tainting of Nagi's body which to them symbolized secks and thus not pure anymore.
