When I heard it was from the pair that made Death Note I thoought it would be awesome and couldn't wait but then I heard it was going to be about 2 manga artists that are struggling to make it to the top the exci8tement kinda bounced back but now that I read the first chapter I have to say: THIS IS AN AWESOME MANGA!! It was interesting to have this manga centered on a goal that was not thought out much, because we don't really know how those mangakas became who they are or where they reached stardom. The characters are nice, too. I think that love is what the series is about and how they conflicts with their dreams and trying to achieve them at the same time. Especially, the two guys that want to become mangakas.

I can't beleive how suspenseful this series is! I am a rabid fan of Naruto, Bleach, One Peice, Akumetsu, Skip Beat, Goong,..... and DOZENS of other series but Bakuman is the one I most look forward to reading each week and the one I re-read 6 times when it comes out!

It doesn't really have a lot of 'big' cliffhangers - so why is it so exciting?

Hm, evidence is pointing to Saiko believing Shujin doesn't want to take becomming a mangaka seriously anymore, hence his decision to split the partnership for the time-being and to study under Eiji.

It may seem a bit mundane, but I love to see all of the manga references in this story. Mangaka truly does have an intriguing approach to depicting the life of somebody in that line of work, but makes it approachable at the same time. I expect nothing less from the maker of Death Note.

hmm Ohba Tsugumi is a great mangaka but i feel that this manga doesnt really have much realism in it.

I agree, it definately isn't a deathly realistic manga.

That being said, who thinks that Saiko and Shujin's "perfect manga" will ultimately be based off of their lovers' personalities? I think that Miyoshi's whole "writing a text novel" about Saiko's love life was more or less foreshadowing for what's to come soon.

i think manga like these are supposed to have long conversations since theyre more plot dependant and the conversations they have make sense. i like the new chapter, good development in my opinion!

Exactly, it's hard to have a manga such as Bakuman without having large written aspects to it. Since this is more or less a manga based off of ordinary people, most scenes aren't able to be expressed through battle scenes and whatnot; they have to paint the picture.

hmmm, since there was no WSJ this week I started catching up on Bakuman and I have to say that after reading this story is becoming more and more like "I's" when it comes to romance between Saiko and Azuhi, and it feels it's steadily gonna continue just like I's, but fearing coz I know how the authors have a way with sad endings we'll see smt different then I's in the end but up to it it will all be the same, anywaysI had a hunch about this at the beginning of the series but now it seems to be really similar to it with azuhi going into gravure's and then she'll get more popular...blah, blah....the same as I's it feels, hope they'll be more original, and ofc the first manga they do in wsj(the mistery one) will be killed, don't know if it's gonna be soon, but it will, it's not called bakuman for no reason XD

Have you even been reading all the chapters? It was clearly revealed in an earlier chapter that he died from overwork exhaustion.

well with the intro of the new characters they decided to go of on a side story
with Aoki to give her more face time i believe, im guessing she is popular and want more of her. and it was interesting with takagi and mashiro but they got serialized already which was most of the action. i dont know where they are going with them two now that they are serialized

I dont think they will go back to not seeing eachother again. Miho has been breaking down and let slip several hints that she is regretting the arrangement. Mashiro has been suspecting it too for a while and I think that is why he went out into the corridor to see her. I dont think that part of the promise is any good anymore as they have gotten started with their careers and wont waste those. He is pretty much busy all the time so even without any promise so dont he have any time to go visit her, but she could probobly spare the time to come over to talk and watch while he works once a week.

I also noticed that even in the last chapter so did she when she talked about their dreams only mention him becomming a mangaka and she a voice actress. So she is still making fruedian slips about wanting to be with him right now :)

I wonder what Miho will do? I somehow suspects that she will tell him that she will kill herself if he works himself to death! This in an attempt to make him take better care of his health. Miho seems to have lost most of her shyness! I think the imminent threat of Mashiro actualy dying cured her of any hesitation. She was pretty bold to honestly talk about how long and how much she loved him! I dont think she could have done that before.

Yeah, Nakai realy screwed himself over there. Aoki was seriously thinking about giving him a chance too. Shujin woke her interest in guys but she was hesitant to get closer to him as he has a girlfriend already. I think Nakai thought he was acting cool while he overdid it and stepped past cool into the heartless bastard area. I wonder what Aoiki will do now? Its pretty obvious that she cant cooperate with Nakai now, so what other options does she have? I wonder how they would react if she wants to colaborate with the main pair? They dont have a serialised manga right now so could help her out for now. She could probobly handle having an assistant then too with them as chaperons. But it would seriously mess up for Shujin.

I wonder how Shujin will react when he finds out that Aoki likes him? Iwase wasnt a serious contender as they had trouble communicating at even a basic level. But Aoki is diffrent so is a serious threat fir Myoshi. Its a bit ironic that her fears may come true due to her own fauilt. It seems likely that Myoshi will try and reconcile as she feels guilty for the fallout of her argument. Myoshi obviously wont like the truth either thou as she is likely to hate that Shujin didnt ask her instead for a girls oppinion. So I wonder how things will turn out?

honestly sleepyfans translation pretty much ends it for them. mangastream's one is a cliffhanger. i doubt it would end with a no.
but i guess we will see next chapter and who was right in translating it

I have been going with MS's translations for a while now. They do a rather good job. Occasionally though I will like the way SF words certain sentences, but if you notice the left part of the first bubble in the middle of that page you will see that SF seems to have removed the chibi-pictures of the different mangas being mentioned. I think that's just wrong and takes away from the mangaka's work.

I started reading Bakuman a few days ago, and I must say, the latest chapter has to be one of my favorites. ^^ I love how earnest they are about defeating Eiji. Even though it's their last chance, they don't come across as desperate, but really determined instead. The new character design was pretty damn cool too. ^^
