Come on people, Anne Rice - perfect vampire novels - Interview with A Vampire, Lestat and there are 7-8 more novels. Watch Fright Night, Lost Boys, From Dusk Till Dawn - tons of vampire movies, but most suck...like Carmilla (a cheesy b-horror flick and yes the vampire is a lesbian)...anime I have seen Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, Vampire Princess Miyu.

You should check out The Taste Of Blood Wine series by Freda Warrington. Those are brilliant vampire novels set after World War 1. You could also check Out For Blood by John Peyton Cooke about vampires being hunted by a human who wants to drink their blood, it's very good indeed.

For manga you could check out Lament Of The Lamb which is a different take on the whole vampire myth and as others mentioned Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D and also Vampire Knight.

Hope that helps.:)

Maybe I can recommend Saga of Darren Shan by Darren Shan. Though Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles is in my top list. And Dracula is not my favorite since if you make a vampire story, it sounds typical though it's the classic where most vampire story/novel originate from. And I think Anne Rice is a brilliant writer where she made a revolution to the vampire saga.

My favourite type of vampire story would be where the story goes by the vampire goes by the vampire's point of view. Not some vampire hunter. So, in other word I like manga(manwha) such as Rebirth. It has a nice storyline but sad coz the translation halted in the middle (Vol 20).

dont you hate when that happens?

Well.. Can't blame the translation(scanlation) group. The may have their own difficulty. Like short of staff etc. In the end the had to forfeit the project. I might have helped if I got the skill.

You'll probably hate it but try out Twilight. I was forced to watch the film recently and didn't think it was anything special. But other people seem to like it.

Decided I'd restart some threads. Now that we have new moderators and all and theres all this talk of trying to get another Golden Age underway.

What do you think of this Twilight craze?

TigersDemon

i think twilight is a blight on this earth and an afront to vampire lit as it stands today.

i also think twilight fans are on the top of the Worlds Most Frightening Forses of Nature list. but that could just be me.

I personally like Twilight, good story, nice plot and interesting characters... but to have such a "world flashflood like shit thing" to happen, I don't know.

It's good, but hardly the best... the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter serie by Laurell K. Hamilton is SO^23 much better... rated R also... yummy

I agree! The books are quite interesting, apart the dazzling vampire... I start to crying in disperation if I ever remember the brilliant vampire under the sun!
"The only vampire that shines is the one on fire" my boyfriend said (and I've to agree, even if I like the books...)
I love vampire literature. My favourite is The Night Huntress serie by J.Frost, I really recommend that.
And the True Blood serie by C.Harris.

aside the books, do anyone ever play the role playing " Vampire, The Masquerad"??

Yeah, he is a Buffy fan (the 1st and 2nd series are the best, in his opinion) and he can't tolarate when the true nature of vampirism is twisted so much to please some teenagers ( even if I'm one of the fan too...! >.>)
Oh, it is! ^^ It's a very interesting play, but there are very different way to play a Role Play. We became a really messy group and laugh all the time! :D
Do you ever play D&D?
Vampire is more simple, but it's really necessary to not consider things too seriously 'cause it could become quite dark...-.- (then, in my christian opinion, the fun is spoiled...I know it sounds hypocrite, but it's really like that in our "coterie"...^^)

Ok, that's where I'm good...
Anne Rice: Love
Mayer: I can't stand dazzling vampires, I can't stand
vampire giving birth I can't stand cedric diggory playing Edward :D and I can't stand her way of writing...she takes it too seriously in some situation I find hilarious .
Charlaine Harris and the true blood series: LOVE AT FIRST SIght!
They are true vampires (they burn in the sun!), there is Eric (OMG the actor is toooo hot!), and it's too trash, it makes me laugh until my stomach hurts.
I also tried Hamilton but I didn't like her stories.
About the role playing Vampire the masquerade....I'm a proud member of brujah clan!
And I also play D&D (actually I'm playing a druid...)
And it's natural that role playing sometimes becomes trash , it's in his nature and it's also what is so good about it!
I loved Buffy and I loved some part of the Angel seires, even if they also made a vampire give birth, and I can't stand it!
I'm actually reading Vampire knight, but I wait the end to give my opinion (I'm a bit wavering about it...)

Mela is my sister-in-comics, guys! [Are you ok with it, Mela??]
I'm a proud member of Toreador clan, but I want to do a Malkavian (the crazy vampire! :D) even if my boyfriend (the master! :D) don't want me to do... I really don't know why...*crazy grin* ( And in D&D I'm a bard!)
*cough* Come back to us, yes, True blood is exilarant, and I've discovered The Night Huntress series by C.Harris blog! ^^
But I think a little (very little) twist is necessary in vampire literature if they have to interacte with humans...

You are welcome, sis!
Malkavian are the most difficult one to play IMHO, but if you are a bard in D&D, you can do everything! :D
I like a little of twist, if not we can stop at Bram Stoker and Bela Lugosi, but...I don't like the twist Mayer gave...

Sorry, I can't completely bashing twilight...Even if you'll kill me, I think it isn't all bad...-.-
Another vampire author is Tanya Huff, "Blood Price" serie.
Does anyone know her?? (The books have inspired the telefilm "Blood Ties", but this one is kind of funny and light! :D)

Tanya Huff is a brilliant author. The Blood Price books are a lot of fun as well.

Yep! :D
The books are funny too, but the story goes a little slower than the telefilm (but that's because even the story is different).
I like so much the character "Henry Fitzroy"! =P

[My favorites remain Cat & Bones of The Night Huntress serie! :D]

DUOWOLF!!!

Nice to see you're still around XD.

OMG I didn't kow they were that many vampire books... the fangirl craze is bound to bring even more I believe...

Vampire are just too fascinating in their powers and beauty...

ChokoStyle

I don't know if it's only a fangirl craze...-.-
When I pick what to read and that kind is interesting, I start a frantic research and find something similar, not only with vampire literature.
My theory about vampire fascination is that the vampire is a "human-monster", often compared to the "human dark side"...(I don't know if I'm explaining right...-.-)
And beauty and powers have a key role, as well.
But when there is a vampire (love) story, there is also an almost obliged "turning" point: will the vampire turn the girl/boy he/she loves??
Almost in every story I've read there is this crucial question...

There is actually one vampire series that I forgot to mention, it's quite dark and it isn't centered in the classic love story between human and vampire. He is an european writer called Wolfgang Hohlbein and the series is "The Chronicles of the Immortals".
