Top 20 Manga of All Time

Kk, bored at work with no Photoshop, so you get useless posts instead^^

The main purpose is to share our favorite series and why we like them so that other people can read and enjoy them too (I'll admit half of why I'm posting is so I can get ideas for new stuff to read :Hoppity_Hop:)

Mooncrow's Top 20

1. One Piece - I've been reading this series for 7 years now, and it has stayed just as fresh and interesting as the day I started it. Oda-sensei is simply a genius at the unexpected. If you haven't read this series yet, do yourself a huge favor and start, now!

2. Fairy Tail - This series has my second spot more for the inherent potential rather than what's actually happened. Mashima showed an amazing amount of growth during his writing of Rave Master; the last few volumes were easily 10x better than the first few. Fairy Tail has started, quality-wise, where Rave left off, and if he can continue the same growth, we're looking at a potential challege to One Piece for "King of Shonen".

3. Eyeshield 21 - "give me a break, a f$%^ing football manga?! Not in a million years." That was my initial reaction to hearing about ES21. When I started typesetting, the first training I did was on an ES21 chapter, and it intrigued me enough to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. ES21 has some of the consistantly best writing of any shonen series out there. Characteriazation is incredible, Hiruma is one of my favorite characters of all time. The manga maintains a very nice balance between humor and drama, earning it's spot on the list handily.

4. Fruits Basket - worried this list was going to be a shonen love fest? Fear not, I love shojo too =) Fruits Basket is my go-to series when I'm feeling melencholy and need a dose of cheer. Well-written, enjoyable characters make this series a joy to read.

5. Ouran High School Host Club - If you like Fruits Basket, you'll like Ouran. It gets a lower rating because it's not finished yet, but I love it just as much

6. Naruto - Ok, I admit I still like the series. It's high rating is definatly more for the earlier chapters though. Still, it's worth reading, and I maintain a faint hope that he rallies for a spectacular ending.

7. Black Cat - Lucky XIII. This series has my favorite 3 person dynamic out of any series. I can't quite describe it, but I love how the main characters interact with each other. The plot is actually pretty good too.

8. Fullmetal Alchemist - the only reason this one isn't higher is that Al irritates the ^&%& out of me. Aside from that, an really well written plot, plus good characterization makes for an enjoyable read.

9. Rurouni Kenshin - a classic, superb in all ways, if not outstanding in any one catagory. If you haven't read this yet, you're missing out.

10. Rave Master - Starts off pretty generic and blah, but really ramps up as the series progresses. Not mention a really great supporting cast.

11. Inuyasha - Though I hear complaints of it being a Fushigi Yuugi clone, it really is alot better. Miroku is a character worth reading the series for alone, and the rest of the cast is pretty darn good too. Plot gets a little muddled at times, but nothing too bad. Now might be a good time to get into it, since it looks like the series is finally starting to wrap up...

12. Berserk - As a rule, I loathe the entire seinen genre. Berserk is the one half-exception. Taken in small doses, it really is an amazing series; incredible artwork, great characters, really interesting plot. However, like all seinen, it has a tendency to be really really depressing if you read too much of it.

13. Initial D - Mmm, drift racing. I love this series, though its one of the few cases where the anime is probably better to watch. Watching Takumi grow as a person while doing completely kick@$$ racing is a treat not to be missed =)

14. Hajime no Ippo - This series would be a lot higher if the mangaka would get move a little faster. While it has great fight scenes and really great characters, they have taken forever to actually grow >< But still absolutely worth reading.

15. Get Backers - A fun romp about two "retrivial specialists", well-written with lots of humor.

16. Mahou Sensei Negima - a harem comedy, it's basically Love Hina with mages. And my love of mages manages to pull it onto the list =) Lots of humor and an interesting plot make for a good read. Don't bother with it if you don;t like ecchi though, there's a lot of it.

17. Dragonball - the anime really gives this manga a bad rep. While some battles strech on a bit long, it's nothing like the anime makes it. Not to mention, as the father of the modern shonen generation, it's worth a look just to see where Oda/Mashima/Kishimoto get their inspiration.

18. Saiyuki - another spin on the "Journey to the West", though it draws a little more directly from the source than Dragonball does.

19. Masamune Shirow's early works - I put all of them of them on pretty much the same level; Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Black Magic, they're all worth reading.

20. Bleach - sigh, I guess Bleach manages to squeak onto the list purely on the strength of the first few arcs. The consumate example of what happens when you don't plan your plot out well enough ahead of time, however, it's still worth reading at least through the Soul Society arc.

arggh, so many more I want to put on the list, but I guess I'll take a break for now. Share your lists here, or tell me why I'm wrong =)

Ugh a top 20? and you have to call it all-time list. Well i won't do either, since all time list I would have no clue on, so here is my umm, top 5 i guess. And pretty much every single one is on your list moon haha.

1. One Piece (tu es shocked arn't you?). I need not say more about it its is over 9000

2. Fairy Tail, I randomly saw a picture on kaizoku-fansubs forums a few weeks after it started with a tag line of "OP and Bleach had a child". I read the chapters and was hooked within a few pages, it blew me away.

3. Death Note, although the ending truly started to go downhill, it still gave me a heart attack (pun intended) becuase how awesome it is.

4. Naruto, like moon if only for the beggining and the character are still awesome there have been a few bad calls in stroy direction but I can overlook them, it is the manga that IS the reason I am here now. It brought me into casual watch something on TV, to reading manga and helping scanlate newer chapters of stuff now.

5.Bleach, I like fight scenes i like how its drawn, The SS arc was awesome. I got hooked, and i'm gonna see it to the end


Honourable mention: DB (need not explain), Inuyasha (I like shounen series, i liek the characters, but it can be slooow at times (kohaku angst chapters piss me off), To-Love-Ru (not really awesome but any means but its not bad by any means either, and i'm a pervert so bewbs FTW)

i read mostly everything, but not much can be my all time favorite.... i guess here is my top manga all the time:

Ok, those 5 will always stay in my top ever first five mangas i love for my entire life im sure >.< I love short, funny and meaningful story and yet, old style .
Rather than that, other following can be in my list of all time as well :

6. Touch (and mostly all of Adachi-sensei's work)
7. Cardcaptor Sakura
8. Sailormoon (well, I dont really like last season "sailor star")

And then, we have other mangas im interested in but donot put them in my all time favourite. The main reason is that most of them are not complete yet. Im not very much into incomplete series so even tho its good, after awhile withou releases, really turn down my mood for that serie until i find the plot interesting enough again to let me re-read them. Woo0t.. My first post!

Anyway, here's my list (not in any particular order):

1. Naruto (Just want to see how it ends. :I Mean IT:)
2. Bleach (Well, I kinda lost interest in it because of the never ending Ichigo/Grimmjaw fight but now that the Captains are in Hueco Mundo kicking ass, My interest level is back like when I read the SS arc. :dogpen:)
3. Mx0 (Humor is just so hilarious :laugh:)
4. Ichigo 100% (I got a little disappointed with the ending cause I was voting for toujo-manaka pairing. :Cry: First romance manga I ever read... and just loved it! :love:)
5. I's (I read this because of Ichigo 100% :Geez:)
6. Maho Tsukai Kurohime (Magical gunslinger :DotheMonkey:Kurohime is just so smexy! :pweeze: Too bad the current scanlating team is so slow. OoO!~ Top 20 Mangas I have read huh? I'll add my to 5 Here. ^^

1. One Piece!!!~~ (OMG!! I've read this manga for more than 7 year's and IT ROCKS!!!~ Luffy makes me touched for his love to his Nakama ^^ Definitely one of the best of all times) LONG LIVE LUFFY!!~

2. Konjiki no Gash Bell!!!~~ (Hmmm... I'm not too sure since I watched the anime version and the manga version in my country is alreade on vol 23 I did not download it. but this one unquestionably one of the best.)

3. Hunter X Hunter!!~ (I Just like it,One of my favorite fighting manga. though the quality of the graphic in the shounen version leaves less to be desired. =P)

4. Gantz (Good graphic, nice storyline, interesting concept. Those are only few of what gantz made of. ^^)

5. Mahou Sensei Negima (MmMmm... Harem goodness!~ I like most of Ken Akamatsu's works such as love hina, A.I Love You... Etc, this one probably one of his best work yet.)

Anyhow, too much is not good since I read more than several hundred titles and I like some of them equally.

Well i guess i might as well to a more complete list than my 5 list i originally did. Also I picked up Reading GTO thanks to Renwei there i guess.

1.One Piece - It Pwn and has been for long time

2.Fairy Tail - It started off pwn, and with time has serous potential to surpass OP

3.Death Note - I'm a sucker for god complexes i guess. And it was just plain awesome at some parts

4.Dragon Ball - umm how can't you like this

5.GTO - I dunno i started getting into it a bit back and even though i havn't finsihed very much of it, everything single thing has been pretty cool

6.Naruto - It started out amazing, died down a bit recently, but i'll be damned if i miss a chapter each week, Also i guess it was the first manga that i acually spent a long time reading, I'm a sucker for shounen

7.Bleach - I'm a sucker for shounen

8.Kekkaishi - I'm a sucker for shounen

9.Konjiki no Gash Bell - It has some great emotion parts, fights are pretty cool, Frikin hillarious faces, oh ya and i'm a sucker for shounen

10.Genshiken - Well i guess i'm an otaku, It funny and i can kinda connect with the chars so i dunno its cool

11.Ichigo 100% - Second of it genre that i read i guess, and i loved it lol, i like ecchi, The story was amazing.

12.My Balls - MOST AMAZING THING EVER. lol, how many manga's have a contest to win a sutomized tissue box and lubrication rofl. It's pervert max, and i like that

13.Hikaru no Go - I saw it in my shounen jump (us version), and never payed mind to it. I randomly read a chapter to it and even though it was a game i knew nothing about and cared nothing for it was so dramatic and good story that it drew me in and i've been reading it ever since

14.Yu-gi-oh - When its not about a duel its acually pretty good (see like the almost entire last arc of series i guess)

15.Inuyasha - It can be pretty slow but its almost over now so it kinda higher on my list but whatever, also ... i'm a sucker for shounen lol (its also got a pervert monk in it so props to that)

16.Eyeshield 21 - I semi-read ONE chapter a FLASHBACK chapter when i typesetted under orders from veni. And that ONE chapter completly hooked me enough to read it and pretty much from that one chapter, Hiruma became one of my fav chars altohug i knew like nothing about him besides that chapter

17.Detective Conan - Hmm this is hard to place because, if the story/case is about the black organization of sometimes even remotley about them its like one of the best things there is. If its rather random it varies rom good to so-so

18.Full Metal Alchemist - Well i'm cheating a bit on this one because i havn't technically read it at all lol. However if the manga is half as good as the parts of the anime that acually followed the manga storyline, and is even half a s good the whole way then i believe it may be higher than this but for now its down here

19.To-Love-Ru - Ecchi + Shounen = autmoatically like rofl.

20.Card Captor Sakura - Its pretty much a genre i never read, however I did read this and liked it so i would have to say that means it pretty damn good story (and i guess it has a bit of a shounen like feel to it :p)

As for the following three, I'd like to mention:
Death Note - I liked the beginning, hated it by the end though

Sailor Moon - Since we are considering "all time", I want to mention it because it was revolutionary in manga, even if I wasn't particularly wowed by it.

Cardcaptor Sakura - also revolutionary, but I admit I never finished this...XD

one piece is long?? wait till u see hajime no ippo....i was soooo reluctant to start it since it had about 770+ chapters (about 78volumes +) that time! so what i did was to watch the anime....and i loved it...suddenly 700+ chapters were caught up in 1 week + :p...but i wouldnt recommend OP anime though...it sucks with all the fillers ><

but seriously, u've gotta read one piece...when i started reading it i only read like 10 chapters a day but then the story starts getting so interesting that i was doing about 50+ chapters a day lol

2. Naruto > It's intresting, how each character has their own unique abilities n personality. and Naruto is not the strongest of all.
3. Claymore > I got addicted to this series recently. Sexy girls with Huge swords, almost match ^^
4. Death Note > Cool tactics. and the main character is the antagonist. it's rare.
5. One Piece > Really good story. however, it is just too long.
6. City Hunter > made me almost laugh to death.
7. Slam Dunk > really fun. never get bored after repeated reads
8. Vagabond > taken from novel. Love the pics
9. Fairy tail > Magic stuff always makes a good story.
10. Rurouni Kenshin > I used to really love this manga.

Ok, I've seen lots of shoujo and shonen but not much seinen recomended, and since I've read mostly seinen lately, expect quite a few on my top 20.

1) Gantz : A truly amazing manga, got hooked by the anime but since the ending seemed wierd I started reading the manga, and I've never regretted it. It's a bit slow in the beginning but as the story progresses it only gets better and better.

2) Highschool of the Dead : One of the best ever, great story, great characters, totally awesome grafics and somewhat realistic. And not the usual "I can't kill it cuz it used to be human" kind of shit that I'm getting kinda tired off.

3) Air Gear : One of the best shounen ever, Ikki is just badass and i just love the humor in it. And if any of you have seen the anime, read the manga. It's much more mature and overall just much better.

4) Unbalance x Unbalance : Got me hooked by the first chapter. Got a really intriguing and well laidout story about a teacher-student relationship. Simply love it.

5) Ares : Hmm what to say.. One of the best action mangas ever, lots of badass people fighting other badass people, huge armies, wars etc. Worth checking out if you haven't. (Swordfights for life)

6) Fairy Tail : As I'm sure everyone here can agree on, this manga is just awesome. And I just happen to love mages.

7) Übel Blatt : It so happens I also really like fantasy and swordfights. Also a very mature manga with a plot that makes you want more.

8) Id : Have played quite a bit of DnD and this is the closest to DnD you can get mangawise. And it does help that the maincharater, who is a guy but looks like a girl, is all but weak. Also a lot of magic and elves and dwarves.. what can i say, I'm addicted to it.

9) Death Note : Nothing but pure awesomeness. Even though the ending is a little lame, the rest of the series has yet to meet an equal.

10) Tsukihime : Vampires, a main character who can see "deathlines", a deep story and good action make this manga a plesure to read.

11) Mirai Nikki : A manga about people who each get a Future Diary and have to fight eachother in a deathgame. The winner will be the next Lord of Time & Space.

12) Black God : A very good plot and intresting characters makes a manga worth reading. Then add "divine spirits" who make "contracts" with humans by switching bodyparts with them, a good potion of humor and wicked fights and you got "Black God".

13) Bleach : The second anime I ever watched and second manga I ever read. Got hooked by the first anime episode and since then I haven't been able to get rid of my thirst for more.

14) Naruto : As so many other, Naruto was the first anime I got in contact with. Started reading the manga after i grew tired of the damn fillers, and really liked it. And now after shippuuden has started i really miss the fillers cuz shippuuden is the worst shit ever produced. The manga is still ok even if the story has felt a little thin lately, and I will continue to read it to the end. (Sorry i wrote so much about the anime but just can't hold back when i think about how they destroy Naruto with shippuuden)

15) Black Lagoon : Not really read the manga, but if it is even close to as good as the anime, it deserves a spot in the top 10..

16) Sekirei : Even though some say the plot is bad/thin, this is a manga i truly enjoy reading. Sometimes it's just hillarious. I usually don't laugh out loud when reading a manga but I have done so several times when reading this one. Warning though, the only mangas more ecchi than this one are hentai ones.

17) Claymore : Almost forgot this one ^^ Gotta respect the "silver-eyed witches".

18) Mx0 : This deserve a higher ranking, I know. I just love magic, comedy and ecchi, what more is there to say :P

19) BLAME : Take a guy who has just one goal, give him one of the most powerful guns ever created which he doesn't hesitate to use, throw in some cyborgs and other foul beings in his way and you have BLAME. Somehow this manga has left it's trace in my mind.. Only the unphantomable (dunno if its correct or even a word but hope I got it right, or at least that you understand what im trying to say) journey and the time the main charakter has spent on it (and spends during the manga) is enough to make you dizzy. (Think i counted atleast 2 or 3 houndred years and many thousands of kilometers he just traveled on foot during the manga only... at the beginning he states he came from 3000 levels below and during the manga he gets about 10 levels or so upwards.. if this don't make your head explode trying to make you brain understand the pure size of the "city", or what to call it, i dunno what will :D)

20) And last but certainly not least, 666 Satan : Has a nice story, nice ending (little lame but, still nice), cool fights and a maincharcater who sets out to conquer the world. There are also angels and demons and ofc people fighting for them. Soundz crazy? It's 666 Satan! Atleast I enjoyed every chapter of it.

End note. I have not read One Piece, maybe I will maybe I won't and yes there is no shoujo on my list.. Every time I've tried to read a shoujo it just feels like im sufforcated with boredom and reluctance. Give shoujo to those who like it, I want shounen or seinen. Peace out.

Bleach--- Very awesome fights, great characters.
Ah My Goddess--- Belldandy she is so lovely, she makes teh whole series she.
hayate the combat butler---Nagi, Isumi, all the girls are cute and funny. I just love the comedy they use.
Air Gear--- Very hot girls. Oh!Great does great work. very great to look at and a good read
ichigo 100%---This one had me on ends from start to finish who knew honestly, that he would end up with her unless you were a fan of the girl he chose.
Unbalance x Unbalance---very hot hot manwha. greatly drawn goos story
Sekirei ---for teh echii in you it is a must read. Strong girls fighting. They are winged by being kissed, boobs everywhere.
Gantz--- two words Kei Kurono, it is slowly dropping since well you know
Pastel--- such a cute story nicely drawn
MxO--- great use of story nice characters
pretty face--- so cute and nice story too bad it is is really short
Black God--- New edition to this list it is an awesome fighting supernatural and a tad bit of cuteness oh and blood.
Azumanga Daioh--- SO FREAKING FUNNY
XBlade--- New Edition it is a great manga girls turn into weapons
