Anyways, I'm not sure but if the question is asking "does history serve any purpose?" then I would respond by saying:
history is there so we can learn how we went from chucking rocks at each other in the head to creating computers that can chuck rocks at each other for us XP. Plus history is something that is constantly that is built up upon. Everyday we're making history. You can't just end it. Plus humans are naturally curious. Someone will want to know history just for the heck of it.
And that's all I wrote.

I would say: The meaning of history is to keep a record of the past, all of its mistakes, and our achievments... to be proud of our achievments and to learn from our mistakes, so we dare not repeat them... and then write several paragraphs/pages supporting this.... Other than that, I got nothing....

My answer would be yes. I would then go on to expand on the fact that without prior knowledge, we would be doomed to repeat our mistakes of the past; this is something we are able to avoid with the help of historical event tracking.

Another reason for yes is that it helps us define what human beings are. We strive for purpose, and our events of the past blends us into something we can recognize as being human.

The latter topic delves much deeper into the human psyche.
