And I'm really curios about Hawkins powers and his "fortune telling".Back at the bar it sounded just like some fate blabling,but now I think he has some mantra-like ability.I hope it's not a devil fruit thou.Also it seems like the strawhats are the only pirates caring for the civilians,judging from Bonney's reaction to Zoro helping the fiance.

After seeing the end of the chapter I am pretty sure that we will see the "monster trio" going rampage in the One Piece 500. But none of the other pirates,probably except Kid/Law,want the Shanbody archiepelgo to become the focus of attention.And this could lead to some very interesting plot development.

Seriously, 499 didnt do much for me, but this chapter..... oh wow.

I'm feeling like a bit of a hypocrit as I usually hate it when super strong deluxe character walks in out of the blue but the pirate kings f****** first mate!!! so obvious as a character yet totally not expected (by me anyway)

just like claucus, entrance to grandline guy, he was old and he knew rogers.
so, i figured he's from roger's crew.

what i didn't expect was he was the first mate! the first mate!

i'm really glad to read this chapter. it seems every pirate begin to take notice of Strawhat group!. Go luffy!. i wonder what kind of encounters this time they will met?. i really want to see the new auro of Luffy to develop again.

Good chapter, like the introduction of Roger's first mate but...

...One Piece needs more Buggy.

Also, I agree with one thing Munkkiman said, They are adding too many people with that spirit look thing. Its alright, but if one of Luffy's fight's ever includes him staring at his opponent, who also has that spirit thing, for the whole fight until one eventually loses, then I'm done with One Piece.

Though, its highly doubtful that will ever happen.

Well I don't think two people fighting with a spirit just stare at each other: remember Shanks and WB..It was an actual fight. Otherwise, great chapter.
just one thing though: Rayleigh must have lived on Shabondy for a while, and he doesn't seem to have had any trouble with the nobles. Why's that?He can't be afraid of an admiral..Roger's first mate is supposed to be able to beat one

I do have to say I like how the stronger characters are introduced in One Piece. All of all the newer characters (skypiea arc aside) all tie into the plot in a rather straight forward way (IMO).

Of course there should be other pirates making the traverse (well it seems obvious to me in hindsight)

Of course the pirate king had a first mate (well after meeting his shipwright, why not his crew?)

They haven't been piling on the super-strong-secret oganisation within super-strong-secret organisation storyline, that really annoyed me with other animes. They always seem to go out of their way to explain how this ridiculously strong guy entered the plot yet no one noticed him before (naruto/bleach etc)....

My only question is how freaking old is this guy... I thought the age of pirates was going well long before luffy was born, and then add yet another 20 odd for luffy to make it this far...

I don't agree that stronger = less boring. Its easy to just say character XXXX is 1000 times stronger than YYYY, but I find it doesnt make the fights much more interesting. As long as the main characters are not undisputably the strongest, then that is good enough for me (and the straw hats seem faaar behind after losing to aokiji).

my last 2 favourite fights were usopp ones (against luffy and that ghost girl) because they were more unusual then just power battles.

Theoretically speaking what 'even-stronger' characters could possibly exist? I'm assuming that Roger's first mate was the strongest on his crew. We know the top elements (well that they exist at least) of the pirates (emperors), marines(admirals + sengoku and possibly vegapunk), shichibukai (blackbeard + the rest) and rebels (dragon and whatever crew he has) by now, I can't imagine there being many more stronger characters. If there weren't, would one piece get boring for you?

Spirit can basically only be used on someone alot weaker than you, we've seen Luffy using a very minor variation of it to scare off a Bull a couple of chapters back, that was probably because that Bull was complete garbage.

Zoro can actually utilize his spirit into physical form...

Silvers hardly had any problems because he used his spirit against some random weakling.

Shanks's only worked on the really weak members of White Beard's crew, it didn't even phase the stronger ones or damage them in any way.

If the person against you is even slightly close to your level then you can't overpower them with just vigor and spirit alone... In fact it won't have any effect at all...

Even Luffy and Zoro probably can't use their vigor to overpower any pirate in the grand line...

Wait a minute. Weren't Shanks and Buggy on White Beard's crew? I was pretty sure they were not on Roger's crew, but now I'm confused. What was Rayleigh doing on WB's ship?

They were in Roger's crew back when they were around 15... that was 22 years ago...

Both Shanks and Buggy are now around 37 years old.

They never had anything to do with Whitebeard, the only way Shanks and Buggy knew WhiteBeard is because of the many battles Roger and WhiteBeard used to have.
