Hi guys,
Rock here, I just put the following up as a blog on my myspace, and I want to share it with you guys. This is something I am very passionate about, so please if you are interested in activism or just helping the world we all live in then continue to read. If you would prefer not to listen to me preach feel free to hit the back button.

People these days get so wrapped up in their day to day lives and problems. Viewing their personal dramas to be earth shattering occurences. At the end of the day, I think objectivity has died among humans, this is most acutely noticeable amongst us americans. We throw out food and clothing without a second thought, we spend our extra money on things that will give us nothing more then instant gratification, we turn a blind eye every single day to the torments being inflcted upon other thinking, breathing, and feeling people in the world. Does this make anyone else half as sad as it makes me?

People in Africa starve to death, die of treatable and preventable diseases such as Malaria and small pox, and have to walk a mile every morning to get water that is swarming with deadly toxins, bacteria, and parasites. Parents watch their children’s stomachs bloat from malnutrition. They have no choice but to watch them slowly die. So we have to drink tap water that doesn’t always taste like the greatest thing you can experience. Or your burger wasn’t exactly the way you ordered it. At least we are blessed to have the priviledges we have. Not only do we as a country not appreciate these things, we waste them. We, in an almost mocking fashion, throw these things away without a thought to what people of impoverished nations would give for one day in our lives.

Is this coming off as preachy? Hell yes it is. Am I any better then you? Not in the slightest. I am a quintessential american just like you are. But with one small difference, I am aware of these things going on in our world. And I want to do what I can about it. This is no premade speech I pulled off a site, and no bot took over my account. This is coming straight from the heart of Matthew J (last name removed for privacy lol), and if you read this far hopefully you will be willing to read just a little further.

I am going to give you some websites for some non-profit organizations now. I don’t expect anyone to see this let alone actually donate. But I truly hope that the next time you go blow some money from your paypal account on something that you absolutely don’t need that you think about this and maybe give that money so that someone who desperately needs it can find a small glimmer of joy in their lives.

http://ewb-usa.org/ - This is a NPO that works in impoverished countries to find actual workable solutions to baseline human needs issues (pure water, agriculture, etc.)

http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/donate/ - NPO like the above but having to do with providing health care for the impoverished

http://data.org - NPO supported by Bono from U2. Helps aid africans in many different ways. This one has no religious affiliaton.

http://africare.org - NPO focusing on more rural areas and preventing the spread of HIV/AIDs among the youth of africa.

These are just a few of the organizations out their to help in just africa. This is not even covering the war torn state of the sinai penninsula ("middle east"). Or the other parts of southeast asia in desperate need of help. Please think of others every once in a while. Skipping a couple trips to starbucks and donating that money could really save someone’s life. Think about that the next time you throw out your half full cup. If you can’t help organizations like these out. Post blogs and bulletins and encourage others to do so. Together we really can help make the world a better place for everyone.

Now this is directed towards Americans cause it is in my myspace blog. There are plenty of organizations worldwide to help "the 3rd world". If anyone knows of any other good non-profit organizations please let me know and I will happily add them to the first post. And to anyone from Africa that sees this. I am fuly aware that the whole continent is not like this. But from my understanding their are countries, and parts of countries that are having a tough time. I m not attempting to be hurtful in any way. Thank you if you actually read this

I don't find it confusing, I think the same way. It's really pathetic that we can complain about petty stuff like "Ah man, this hamburger isn't what I expected." When children in Africa die every day because they have no food.

kekekekeke... looks like you're "someone who cares about others" person huh?
if you care about them why don't you go to Africa and bring them some food? :p

er I would just like to point out that noone is dying of Small Pox in Africa. The disase onlty exsists in two places in the world. That being a lab in the USA and a lab in Russia there are no strains of it in the world.
Apart from that this was a really interesting post.
A lot of the problems in Africa are also caused by the Church telling people they aren't allowed to use birth control so they keep having children that they have no way of feeding and spreading disases like AIDS becuase they are told it's a sin to use condoms.

Yes I am one of "those people". And there should be more of "those people" on our planet. It is attitudes just like this that perpetuate everything that is wrong in this world. Why don't I go to africa and bring them some food? Because that would cause me to spend a couple grand on plane tickets that I would just be better off giving to an organization that could do a lot more good for them then I could by ust bringing them food. "give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime." would be a suitable quote here. I find it sad that people find stuff like this to be a laughing matter. Is empathy really so dead?

And as far as small pox goes, I was wrong on that one. My bad, I am only human. I don't even remember where I got that info so it was probably just me outright being wrong. But that doesn't mean they don't suffer a very real and serious plight over there. This was not meant as a joke thread this is reality people. Reality isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Life sucks for a lot of people in a very real way. My intent was to make people realize that their life isn't so bad and that everyone in "first world nations" have the resources to help out. If everyone who could donated 5 dollars to causes like these every year. The plight of the "third world" would be gone within a decade.

Ah sry, but I think this belongs here, I'm sry if it offends I'm posting it here but : The world would be better off if there wasn't a munkki in this forum

And Oh yeah, I've donated monthly for a year to Unicef before. But I had to put a stop on it, because I needed the money.

And I really hope they find a cure or atleast a better breaker for HIV/AIDS because I can't feel but pity the girl for example when she get's raped by someone who's got Aids/hiv and since some african area's are in turmoil and (guerilla)war there often also happens alot of women get raped by some sick bastards. Rape is one thing I really despise , even in manga (*cough*doujins too*cough*).

I read in the newspaper that Swedish scientist were having some kind of breakthrough with the AIDS/HIV vaccine/cure or something like that. I'm not sure though. >_>
