Intro:
Hello all. FH started out as a One Piece High Quality Scanlation group, and slowly went on to speedscans. And seeing how many old members quit, and I've been going on less and less, I think it's time to get a jump start on the One Piece HQ cleaning
So if you'd like to join the FH high quality squad, just leave a reply in here and a page of something you cleaned (both raw and high quality) LOOKING FOR WHO WANT TO PRODUCE HIGH QUALITY SCANS
Requirements:
-Adobe Photoshop 7+
-An example of what you can clean so I can gauge how good you are (must include a thumbnail of the raw and your cleaned page [example below] Please, some signs showing that you have done something other than standard leveling. I’d like to see redrawing or graying or something to show me what you know or learned. That means I want to see a page with SFX, redrawn lines, grays using a gray pattern or something.
-Must have a reply in here submitting a page that is an attempt at high quality. No criticizing comments, useless posts to get your post count up. This is to prevent flaming, hating, waste of space, etc.
-Must be a page from One Piece, seeing as this is a One Piece High Quality Project
-Must be your own work. No stealing from other groups because I’ll be asking you to clean a page into high quality as a 2nd part of the test.
From something like this-----> To something like this
http://xs225.xs.to/xs225/08122/page160.jpg.xs.jpg (http://xs225.xs.to/xs225/08122/page160.jpg) ----------->http://xs225.xs.to/xs225/08122/page458.png.xs.jpg (http://xs225.xs.to/xs225/08122/page458.png)
Please use thumbnails (that means imageshack.us, photobucket, etc) I don't like viewing large images on the forum spoiler things. Just something I'm not a fan of.
PLEASE DON'T BE AFRAID to PM me or e-mail me at real0st@gmail.com for more details, personal questions, etc. You can send your submissions either by replying,
You can look at...

I AM LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SUBMITTING PICTURES SUITABLE FOR HIGH QUALITY. THAT MEANS GRAYS GREYED, LINES REDRAWN, BORDERS REDRAWN, WHITES PERFECTLY WHITE, BLACKS PERFECTLY BLACK.
This is a sign up thread, not a discussion/commenting thread. I already deleted the non-sign up posts. Please, if you want people to help you point out what is wrong, please make a thread in the Training Workshop

Updated first post. I don't blame you, but this is WAY OFF the standards of the HQ that I'm looking for. I started off right off the bat doing HQ, I didn't have the luxury of doing medium-quality cleans as a start. So might I suggest looking through each of the tutorials, maybe looking up some GIMP tutorials, or you could "not-correctly" download Adobe Photoshop and goof off with it first, then give a shot at HQ cleaning.

I never claimed my work was HQ, I know its only MQ. I'll shift through some more advanced guides and see if I can't do better.
Typically all ive ever done is independant speed cleans

You don't have to be a smart ass about it.
I would like to see you be a cleaner, text editor and translator then be perfect at all 3. Im about MQ all the way around. I frequently do entire chapters on my own I am "an army of 1".
here is rosario 33(as an example), i had it done a long time before franky house
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6RNPTTYF
I did everything but the cleaning... well thats not entirely true I still cleaned the text. (it was a japanese clean). The original is included in the download as well, so you can compair them if you want.

I can't say that is HQ because the raw is already pretty good quality because I think Jump Square (the magazine the publishes R+V) uses good paper versus Shounen Jump which uses gray paper seeing as how most JSq scans look nice when scanned.
The example I showed is what I expect, from gray something to white and sharpened lines. You could either take a page from the training tests over at the Training Forum or grab any Weekly Shounen Jump Raw and turn that gray scaled high resolution thing into something like what I've done. Because what the HQ team is going to be doing is One Piece. We may expand to other series if we get more people, but those series will probably ones that people read all the time (like WSJ magazines)
Plus I added more to the top post.

:D:D:D:D:D yeah, sure - MQ
:D that was really funny, are you somewhat of a comedian?
ok, real0st...one thing i wanna know - how many pages would i have to clean?
How many each week? And how many people are you already - this way i can guess how many pages i'd have to do... -.-
and also - from which chapter on would we start? and are you planning to catch up with the weekly releases?
well, i might try this page, if i have the time to...
ahh- from which chapter is this page?

How many each week? as many page you can. No fix number. People in Franky House binge all time.
And how many people are you already - this way i can guess how many pages i'd have to do... -.-Right now we gonna see if our affilliates can help with the One Piece HQ. So wait on number of total staff for now till we fix that.
and also - from which chapter on would we start? and are you planning to catch up with the weekly releases? i think around 482-3

well, here's what i would usually release...without the redrawing of fine lines in the pics and without replacing the grays, which i never did before because in my opinion, the manga then loses it original look...
but well, i still will try that out tomorrow or sometime...
well - ranma - that is MQ...
(at least at hope it reaches MQ...)

btw the HQ in the first post has some details lost on the cost of the grays...
for example the scars on Nami's arms, in the bottom of the page...
>one more reason why i hate grayreplacing...<

Yeah...that page was incomplete when i uploaded it. But I fixed it a LONG time ago.
Anyways, kenji answer most questions, we're currently finishing up 481-482, which is going real slowly.
As for number of people, even I don't know because they're always on and off. BUt we're in need of cleaners.
Page is from chapter 481. I recommend not trying my page and grab just about any other One Piece page with SFX, grays, and lines that could need redrawing (like speed lines). High Quality cleaning is easier than people think, must more time consuming if you're new to it. Redrawing in my opinion is worse than graying. And when you have to combine those two together....ugh much.

Guys, no more talk like this. Veni-sama gonna be pissed off if he see something like this. Franky House is not about I am better than you, you suck, etc etc. We learn from each other. So no more posting unless you wanna talk about joining HQ team otherwise i gonna delete any post like that.

Try some redrawing and graying that stuff in. Look at this (http://senbonzakura.kageyoshi.net/2007/12/19/redrawing-with-the-pen-tool/)

Borders a bit thick
I can't really tell if you used a gray pattern on the grays or you just smudged it all together and made it all look uniform
You didn't gray all of it, definitely need some redrawing here and there as some lines are broken up and/or not fully darkened/straight. And you can still tell that there was a page curve on it a bit.
P.S. the page I put up is not a test page, look for either the original Kylara raw or another raw Shounen Jump pages with grays, broken lines, etc, because the page I provided is shrunken from it's original size (to save space for you slow internet people).

nope i mask it... i didn't know how to do gray pattern nor do i know how to use pen tools (i used square brush for the border) TT_____TT
yep, i realized i'm not good with cropping, always the wrong angles >O<
ah, i know, i just don't have any raw since i'm only beginner and trying something new .___.
ish working on the test though... please guide me through then... onegai *bows*

Well, I'm looking for people to cleaning stuff like One Piece. Maybe I should put that in the requirements list. To be honest, the only thing you look like you've done with the page is level it. Feel free to check the tutorials I listed or PMing me about anything you may have trouble with
wonkfeihung
04-28-2008, 02:59 AM
the things i've done was leveling the pic, cropped it and straightened it
so if u think that im not qualified then thats ok, i already tried, but im really wanna join your team, because i wanna give some contribution for the society :)

04-28-2008, 04:32 PM
Well, I never said you're not qualified, I meant you're not qualified YET. As in you can still keep trying and learning. I encourage you to do this. Look at every bit of tutorial, then start doing something. Reading is much easier than doing. Most people just show something that is good for speedscan, which is good, you can join speedscan. But for HQ, I want to see someone doing more than what speedscan does.

Another Clean from the next page using a different graying technique
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/1517/03bo0.th.png (http://img249.imageshack.us/my.php?image=03bo0.png)
and the raw

Mmm... well, you choose two easy pics ;P In the first pic there isn't so much grey (it's almost inexistent) ; in the second, I don't like your technique ;P Try "Add Noise" or the filter "Film Grain". It's better ;P For the rest, it's quite good, but not enough for HQ (ex. white is NOT perfect white yet, the same for black and some lines are a bit blurried). Anyway, good job and keep it up ;P You can just improve yourself^^
P.s: have a look at the first post. Realost said clearly that this is a Sign Up Thread, not a Traning Thread ;P. Next time be more careful.

@byakugan:
borders a litte to thick. Resulting borders should be 2-3px thick
grays are strange. Try replacing the grays with a gray pattern
line quality isn't smooth as I'd like for HQ
You can post your applications here (your cleaned pages). But you should ask for help in the training workshop area. Keep the chatting to a minimum here.
