The lines look too...tattered or something. Not completely smooth. Probably from too much white leveling/black leveling. Don't always follow guides. If anyone ever uses their brains anymore (I'm sure all of us don't use our brains when on the computer) the word "guide" does NOT mean "do exactly what I typed".
Try and eyeball it and compare it to other scans which are rated good. Attempt to achieve those kinds of results and experiment with settings, how much of something you do, etc.

Oh Nooozzz the dreaded arc, its been over denoised so its hard to see the arc. Dw i've done the same, when the arc is in the pic i say choose a lower setting and do more by hand or like myself do it all by hand

I don't exactly follow guides. I just read other people's comments and do what they do [Or at least I try to] and ask my brother for help.

Good, that's the way! Try to change things by yourself also. Tweak around, you'll find your own cleaning road to ride on^^.

Cleaning manga is basically making it easier, nicer to read. If you ever look at raws, then scanlations, you'll realize most non-Japanese native speakers go for the scanlations. But there comes the fact that ANYONE can do it. What we're criticizing with other people are quality, and how it could be improved.

yeah, um, u need to clean most if not all the lines... the second and third panels in particular, the pic lost heaps of detail and due to u missing lots of lines in those panel it looks over leveled, maybe get rid of what u can of the black lines at top and bottom but otherwise its good imo dont ask me how mab or makan will take to it.
in short u need to level more lines
wow it sucks :p it is very overlevel i would say and there something else u did I dont know what ??? also there is gray in this page where is it xD ?? and add what odinn said too but dont take the its good imo that he said since it is very bad but there is the two things which is good the blacks are blacks and white are white :D but what is the point if the most of the detailed are gone :p
ok here what u will do next time u clean and post pic here
1-post the raw
2-save every step u do like this:
a-crop the page if needed ans save
b-level the page and save and tell us the number u used
c-pass it under neat image and save and tell us the % in the noise dedcation
d-level the page and save and tell us the number u used
e-burn the blacks and save
f-resize and save the final save
so u got 7-8 pages to post next time to see where is the problem u did it is the best way to know what is ur mistakes :D
and yeah here how the page u clean should be :p

Wow, mine looks really bad compared to that. How do I make the gray stuff like in the top left and bottom right panel? So I guess I have to burn any spot?

Youre not doin to bad at all Tri Pham. The reason they know you over leveled is bcause of the greys being irradicated in that top left panel. If the grey didn't exist in your raw... get better raws lol. What I would do in a pic like that is use the recatngular marquee tool and select that panel and right click then layer via cut. That way you can level the rest of the page and come back to that panel later.
Are you using a noise reduction software. Cause I haven't seen any sigs of it's use in your scans (except maybe DGM). They are super handy programs and I would suggest getting one. It will make it a lot easier to get your lines looking a bit better.
Also don't be afraid to whip out the pen tool from time to time. Once you master the use of it the pen tool can be your best friend. All in all the clean isn't bad (I see worse get released all the time). Every beginner over levels. So no worries, keep at it.

It looks nice Tri. Much impromeved.
Neat Image is a denoising filter program that works as a plugin for photoshop. Denoising smooths out the specks in your blacks and whites and helps to give you a smoother image. I am sure tere is a tutorial for it's use in the tuts section.

don't forget to crop the pages, Tri
and you over denoised it i think, the gray is too blurry XD
well, good try in 20 minutes :D
makhan
04-01-2008, 10:26 AM
it's like endless said, overdenoised for sure >_<
the first thing you should aim for when denoising, is nice grey - you can burn blacks and whites later, but you won't do much to greys if you messed them when denoising
try again ;)

YOu are improving wuite a lot. And the fact that your are developing speed is good. But be careful. If you worry too much about speed you wont get much better at cleaning. Speed comes with practice. When I started it took me 2 hours a page. Now at about the same quality I can do a page in about 20 minutes. And that is simply do to experience and practice. Keep up the good work Tri

What are the "signs" that I should look out for that I over denoised it? I also have demo NI, meaning I can only do 1024x1024 at a time. So I'd have to do it in parts, is there a way to get the full version of NI?
