So yes I was talking with duowolf (awesome girl from england) about doing a thread like this^^. So I'll start.

I started reading books from Laurell K. Hamilton. An author who specialise in fantastic/horror/romance book. She has 2 running story. The best one is about Anita Blake who is a necromancer, raising dead for money. She happens to be in a town controled by a master vampire who fells in love with her... a lot of stuff like that in about 25 books^^.

It's like an hardcore buffy the vampire slayer with REAL romance...it's really good^^. Try looking for it :p.

I'm currently reading The Liveship Traders Trilogy by Robin Hobb. A really great writer.

PS: Do you have to put your name in the thread title? ^^

At the moment I'm reading a murder mystery novel called Naked Prey by a guy called John Stanford. It seems pretty good so far.
If you like horror books I really recommend The Ring trilogy by Koji Suzuki. These are the books that The Ringu movies are based on. They are pretty creepy and full of plot twists that you really don't see coming.
You could also check out Parasite Eve by Hideaki Sena. It's a very creepy medical horror. The Parasite Eve games are a direct sequal to this novel so if you enjoyed the games you should like the book.

I think Robin Hobb sucks, I don't remember what triology of his I read, but it was the worst fantasy books i've seen :P

Fantasy books i like are Magician by Raymond Feist and Legend by David Gemmel. They both have many other great books too ^^

BTW: Did you guys hear that Robert Jordan is dead? :'(

duowolf
09-18-2007, 08:03 PM
I love Raymond E Feists books I've got all of them but I've never been a hugh fan of David Gemmel.

I'd heard about Robert Jorden, my brother told me about it the other day. It's very sad though from what I've heard that he's been sick for a very long time though I'm not sure with what.

I've heard they want to edited the books to make them appeal more to this generation as well as taking out the words like gay as they mean different things now then they did when the books were written.

The dark tower : It's complete now^^. But since the last book just came out it's hard to find the previous ones...

Jules Verne: Jules Gabriel Verne (February 8, 1828–March 24, 1905) was a French author who pioneered the science-fiction genre. He is best known for novels such as Journey To The Center Of The Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873). Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before air travel and practical submarines were invented, and before practical means of space travel had been devised. He is the third most translated author in the world, according to Index Translationum. Some of his books have been made into films. Verne, along with Hugo Gernsback and H. G. Wells, is often popularly referred to as the "Father of Science Fiction".

Do you speak english? Then something with to do something, then you dont understand something i think.

Do you speak english? Then something with to do something, then you dont understand something i think.

Do you speak english? If yes, try to be a bit clearer b'cos I don't understand

so the thing you wanted whoever to do was to be more clear.

I've never been a hugh fan of Jules Vern I liked the movies based from his books but not the books themselves. I find it's the same with most of the classic novels. I mean Dracula is a great movie but gods is the book so very boring. I wasn't able to finish it even though vampires are my fav monster out of the set.

Talking of vampires has anyone read the Night Watch triology by Sergei Lukyanenko. They are excellent books, with a great plot and cast and the world he invented is very beliveable.

There was these series of books i really liked i can remember the first one was called "The Golden Compass" I believe.

I know the ones you mean, they're by a guy called Phillip Pullman. The first one is being made in to a movie.
I quite liked the first two books in the trilogy but for some reason I couldn't get into the last book. I don't have a clue why but thats how it was.
Does anyone here read the Dragonlance novels. I think they are really good espically the main trilogies written by Tracy Hickman and Margeret Weis.

Personnaly, i'm a Stephen King addict, i've started to read his books when i was young (maybe 8-9). I like his way of writting things, and the fact that most of his shorts story have free ending. (don't know if u 'll understand what i mean ^^).

Salem, and Walk or Die (marche ou creve) are my favorites titles.

Beside that i've read Anne Rice's chronicles, and it's not so bad, somes books are boring but others are really greats. Indeed it's personnal tastes/interests/feelings ^^ ?

Been a looooooong time since i haven't started a new book.. i guess the last one was the perfume, and it was really a great experience !

U have to take a look ^^ (the movie is a good adaptation, but the book is better, really better)

But for now i'll seek for D's novels ^^

I've been thinking about one short story: The monkey, so great !! just like the monkey who live in homer's brain XD. (cf simpsons the movie ^^)

B-one, you hafta be the first person i have met that likes Mysterious Island. I read it, it's my favorite book of his. Journey to the Center of the Earth is really good too.

I liked the Paolini books, but they aren't masterpieces by any means. He actually lives in Paradise valley, which is about two hours drive away, and is mostly populated with my relatives.

Has anybody here ever read Terry Pratchett? best humor/fantasy ever. British dude, very prolific.

The last one i've read was Neuromancer by William Gibson. Basically i read all kinds of books, but i prefer scifi and fantasy, my favourite writer is H. P. Lovecraft, that guy could generate some mood in his writings...
Some of my favourite books are: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, Felidae by Akif Akif Pirinçci, all of Tolkien's work, (The Silmarillion was a bit dry tho, but i still liked it) i could go on for a long time and list other ones, but i think this will be more than enough ^^

Dean Koontz.
Dean Ray Koontz (born July 9, 1945 in Everett, Pennsylvania) is an American writer.
He is best-known for writing many successful novels that could broadly be described as suspense thrillers, but which also frequently incorporate elements of horror, science fiction, mystery, and satire. Several of his books have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List, with ten hardcovers and fourteen paperbacks hitting number one. Early in his career, Dean Koontz wrote under an array of pen names, but since the 1980s has written mostly under his own name.

Favorite book by Dean Koontz.
Twillight Eyes: The book is introduced with Slim sneaking up on, and killing, a "Goblin" on the fair grounds of a local carnival. Goblins are monsters which have the ability to shape shift between human and bestial forms, genetically engineered super-predators with a built-in desire for bloodshed and human misery.

Some of my favorites from classic are Alexandre Dumas, Charles Dickens, Umberto Eco...Right now my favorite is The Front Runner by Patricia Nell Waren. Good book with interesting story line. Oh yeah. I love Orson Scott Card!! Have you read "Songmaster"? It's so deliciously angsty. It's my favourite Orson Scott Card novel.

Lately though, I'm sliding more towards the smutty, paranormal, romance type novels. Of those, my current love is "The Hollows" series by Kim Harrison.
