FH's Official Statement

For what this is about go here: http://mangahelpers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23568. For general info, our leader venicia777 has been sick for about half of last year, but the situation took a turn for the worse in recent weeks and unfortunately is currently admitted at the hospital. As a result in a collective action, we FH have decided to put forward this statement, an action we believe he will want us to take. This isn’t about giving anyone a bad name- it is about our resolve.

And for what it is worth FH has had its scanlations used several times yet we do not go about disgracing the perpetrators in public to show how much of a scum they are. We are also the only scanlation group that even allows its translations to be used by anyone who wants to and asks. First and foremost, whatever the circumstances were we sincerely apologize to kudou, to our fans, and all that have been inconvenienced by this incident. We will do our utmost best to prevent future occurrences.
Nevertheless, to move on we must tell what we know, we must tell you that this is a story of humanness and of honor. In his absence we must tell you the two instances that have been used to describe our leader and FH as a bunch of thieves in a world where we are all using materials usually licensed, a world of pirates.

[BEGIN]
1) The first accusation leveled at veni-sama was that he is an established thief who was involved in stealing a scanlation in the past – this being his first offence. But let us tell you the true story, and then you can decide for yourself. This happened about 5-7 months back.

This incidence involved a One Piece HQ chapter scanlation. As was the norm then after all cleaned pages were gathered veni-sama chose the best of each page and quality checked all before releasing the chapter (redrew some parts, etc). In this case a final page or two were from another scanlator’s work. The irony of this is that it was an unofficial FH staff who made MH aware of this. However, without knowing how FH operated, veni-sama was banned and branded as a thief for stealing pages by virtue of circumstantial evidence. Upon contacting veni-sama and him returning some days later to explain the true circumstances, was it proven that he only QC-ed a stolen page. His ban was then lifted and transferred to the staff member who was actually involved. However do you know what veni-sama did after this?

He said that damage had already been done and he will rather prefer to keep the ban even if for a lifetime while the staff involved went scott-free. Of course irrespective of how admirable it was this request was rejected. This is the story of veni-sama’s supposed first stealing escapadae, his first allowed offence that was spent. This brings us back to what this began with- decide for yourselves: in a scanlation group where members are trusted and used to doing their own work – is the FH leader worthy of the tag of “scanlation thief”?

2) This here is the second offence about the stolen translation. But before we start did any of you know that Kudou has given FH permission to use his translation in the past? Whatever the circumstances then Kudou did- even though his translation said Do Not Use For Scanlation. At least this hints of a degree of a link between Kudou and FH although this doesn’t give anyone the right to steal.

It was the weekend before Christmas. Veni-sama had already reported in sick yet with the lack of personnel he stayed to help out and coordinate our work coming online intermittently as much as he could. Over 95% of the FH staff were away- offline -attending to their holiday business including our OP translator for that week- ankokuryu. At this time ankokuryu had been able to complete 14 pages of his translation (he was able to finish the last 5 pages 3 days later). The short of this is that veni-sama contacted Kudou before getting offline. No one, even in FH, knows the exact details between the messages that were exchanged. No one. And yet without hearing from the two main parties in this story veni-sama is again branded as a thief- this time a “translation thief”. And worse without all facts coming to the fore veni-sama and Franky House have been parlayed and portrayed as the canker of the scanlation scene. And this was done even though FH was informed that the incidence will remain private until all angles were covered. But of course that didn’t happen.
[END]

These are the two stories, as we know it, from which we FH and our leader are being labeled as the scum of the scanlating world.

There is a story that goes like this: there was a beautiful woman who was alleged to have committed adultery. Everyone around was engaged in insulting her and calling her names you can only imagine. In addition to this they were throwing stones at her, inclined to rid her and society of her filth. But one brave man stood up between the mob and asked: any of you that can say that he hasn’t committed a crime or a sin in his life, even one such as this, should be the first to come out and cast a stone against this woman.

We can all guess what happened – no one was able to throw anything. We all know that manga scanlating is a pirate-ing business nonetheless we still have honor among ourselves. In the last 4 months alone before this incidence FH had released over 120 different chapters, ie averagely one chapter per day without incidence. And over 80% of those who participated in this were people who had little to no scanlation experience to begin with.

Conclusion
Let us tell you more: with his time and own money veni-sama keeps making sure that FH runs. With his effort and patience he has helped in one or way another in grooming most of us into the scanlators we are today. And with his experience and our hardwork FH will move on. This is a leader we are proud of just us we are proud of FH.

Venicia777 has told us to treasure all scanlators, translators, and manga communities but forewarned that despite this when misfortune strikes we will truly know those who our true friends are. Out of respect veni-sama even informed the senior staff of MH why FH is being set up people he always called friends. And always tells us to ask the fans what they wanted before going out to do scanlations. This is the venicia777 we know, the one you don’t know, the one who will always move in to take all blame for any of the mistakes of of the FH team on any outside entity.

You can call this cheesy melodrama- but you will be lucky to have a group of people write something of this sort about you. Even if he is a thief we know who he truly is, because he has also told us that being a pirate/scanlator isn’t about perfection it is about humaneness, we are bound to make mistakes when we do we get up, change and walk forward. And he is always there to help us walk forward just like this time too even in his absence. Just like cyborg Franky did in One Piece assembling a motley crew of rag-tag citizens in Water 7 to build the original Franky House, we will survive.Even if only one person visits the FH site, even if only one person downloads our releases, so far as we are able we will do our best to satisfy them. Franky House will surely survive.

As we stated above FH always strives not to exchange words of attrition, disgrace or give others bad names in public. We have made our peace with all parties involved in this issue including MH, the translator, and ourselves. Also, we have thanked MH for all the good its existence has done for FH and the manga community. For now, irrespective of whatever may come out of this process all we can do is move on. This is our last statement on this matter. Happy New Year to Everyone.
